TrophyCiaran Treacy Invividual DebateTrophy

This Debate was established in memory of former student and member of the Literary & Philosophical Debating Society, Ciaran Treacy. It has become the competitive highlight of the year as the magnificent perpetual trophy generously donated by the Treacy family is coveted by all members. This is demonstrated by the high caliber of past winners. Every winner has either reached the Times Semi finals and/or competed at Worlds. In 1996 it was decided that as with the Irish Times past winners would not be eligible to re-enter but would be encouraged to adjudicate the competition.

It replaced the Don Reddin Trophy (Lit & Phil) and the Presidents Prize (Parl Deb) as the main individual speakers competition. Details of the Don Reddin and Presidents Prize are non-existent and we may also be missing the first year of the Ciaran Treacy. Anyone who has details of these competitions please e-mail them to [email protected]
